A Founder’s View: ISF and FSC

David Simpson (L) with Nate Madsen

Early in the Journalism Project, guest host Nate Madsen interviewed David Simpson, a co-founder of ISF who participated in developing the Ten Elements of Sustainability that evolved into the first forest management certification program in the world. These principles were underwritten by the SmartWood program, which in turn was adopted by the international Forest Stewardship Council, familiar to consumers as FSC certification. David laments the failure of FSC certification to protect old growth Douglas-fir stands on Rainbow Ridge and emphasizes the importance of timber certification in terms of climate change. This show originally aired November 11, 2020.
